Engwe, the electric bicycle company, has recently released the Engwe M20, its latest e-bike design. While the M20 does borrow a lot from other e-bikes in the industry, it stands out in one crucial area: the price tag.
The Engwe M20, a dual-suspension electric moped, starts at just $1,299, which is quite surprising considering what it has to offer. Moreover, customers can avail of an extra $150 early bird discount if they purchase it from the launch page.
The dual suspension setup is one of the best features of the Engwe M20, especially for those who plan to make full use of the fast 28 mph (45 km/h) top speed. At this price point, it is quite rare to see such features.

But there is more. Customers can choose to have dual batteries, which means that they can add a second 48V 13Ah battery to the top tube instead of the included storage bag. With this, the battery capacity doubles to 1.25 kWh, and the range doubles to 94 miles (151 km) on pedal assist. The dual battery version is priced at $1,599, and the early bird coupon on the page still applies, bringing the price down to $1,449.
Engwe M20âs front headlights are also worth mentioning, as they seem to be designed with twin treatment. There is a second identical headlight mounted directly above the first. While it’s unclear why that would ever be necessary or even desirable, having a spare headlight could be a good thing.
In terms of its drivetrain, the Engwe M20 uses a 1,000W rear hub motor mounted in a cast rim wheel to deliver its power. This motor is known for its reliability and performance, and the lack of spokes removes a common maintenance concern on high-power hub motor e-bikes.
The Engwe M20 also features mechanical disc brakes, which appear to be a cost-saving measure. While many companies prefer the higher stopping power of hydraulic disc brakes for a fast and heavy e-bike like this, mechanical disc brakes are still a great option. The brake rotors are also a bit small at 160 mm, so this should be kept in mind if customers plan to go on super-long downhill canyon carving trips.

The bike rolls on 20″ x 4″ fat tires that have an off-road tread, making this something of a dual-sport electric moped. Both throttle and pedal assist can be used to activate the motor, although most of these moto-inspired e-bikes tend to see their pedals used more like static footrests.
The Engwe M20 is rated for riders up to 265 lb. (120 kg) and comes in three color options: black, white, and green. Shipping has already begun, which is a nice change from the many pre-order e-bikes weâve seen launched lately.
