Volkswagen has announced the launch of a facelifted version of its ID.3 EV, which was the first model in its ID family of electric vehicles. The upgraded 2024 ID.3 has received a comprehensive upgrade, including new software with updated convenience and assist systems. While the exterior and interior may not look too different from the previous model, Volkswagen has implemented several changes to give the car a more striking look.
The most visible change is the more aggressive front bumper with enlarged air cooling openings. There are also new light signatures for the LED headlights and taillight clusters, with illuminated taillight segments in the boot lid. Other updates include new aero-optimized alloy wheels, a black roof with matt-silver trim on the edges, and new colors, including the Dark Olivine Green iridescent metallic paint.

The interior of the ID.3 has been remodeled to include softer and larger surfaces on the door panels, with more generous hand rests as well. The haptic experience has been optimized, with improved material quality, including soft, foam-backed surfaces in the cockpit. The car’s interior is now completely animal-free, with a high proportion of recycled materials. The infotainment system features several changes in the menu structure, including a clearer, more informative charging menu.
Under the hood, the 2024 VW ID.3 retains the same rear-mounted electric drive motor rated at 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) and 310 Newton-meters (228 pound-feet) of torque. The 58-kWh and 77-kWh battery packs remain available with the same WLTP range ratings. The larger battery enables a range of up to 546 kilometers (339 miles) in the ID.3 Pro S, while the smaller one offers 426 km (264 miles) of range in the ID.3 Pro.

The car’s electronic architecture has adopted a new concept, using two high-performance computers known as ICAS (In-Car Application Servers) as the main components. These computers solve a number of tasks that are otherwise distributed among a large number of small computers.
Volkswagen has also updated the smart Electric Vehicle Route Planner, which schedules charging stops on longer journeys to ensure that the destination can be reached as quickly as possible, using current traffic information and forecasts in addition to the battery charge level.
Overall, the 2024 ID.3 has received a comprehensive upgrade that includes several subtle changes, which collectively give the car a more striking look. Volkswagen has not announced when the facelifted ID.3 will be available to customers in Europe, but it is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2023. With its upgraded features and improved design, the facelifted ID.3 is expected to make a big impact on the EV market.
