Ford has released a teaser video for one of their upcoming electric vehicles (EVs) based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. In the video, Ford of Europe Design Director Amko Leenarts reveals an aerodynamically optimized wheel on an unnamed model, which could be the so-called “Sport Crossover” set to arrive in 2024.
Although details are scarce, the teaser shows that the crossover may have a more rakish windscreen and less plastic cladding than Ford’s previous MEB-based model. Martin Sander, Model e Europe boss, teased that the new EV will be a “rebellious, uncompromising, SUV … reimagined for the EV era.” It is expected that the crossovers will be Ford’s take on Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.5.
While the two models will look different, it is speculated that they will both have a 77 kWh battery pack and an available dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 262 hp (195 kW / 265 PS). This powertrain is similar to the one found in the ID.4, which has a WLTP range of up to 321 miles (517 km) and can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds.

It seems that Ford is following in Volkswagen’s footsteps by using their MEB platform to create a range of EVs. Although specifics about the new model are unknown, it is clear that Ford is committed to the electrification of their vehicles and is investing in new technologies to do so.
