The Mercedes-AMG One, formerly known as the Project One, has finally begun deliveries to customers. The highly anticipated hypercar was first unveiled as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show five and a half years ago, with the production version revealed in June 2022. Only 275 of the F1-engined vehicles will be produced, making it a rare and exclusive sight on the roads.
The first customer car was revealed in a trio of images shared by Mercedes-AMG, showing the mostly black exterior with Petronas green accents, white three-pointed stars in the rear, a red tip on the roof scoop, and prominent white “AMG” lettering on the front grille. The One is touted as the fastest street-legal production vehicle around tracks like the NĂŒrburgring, Hockenheim, and the Red Bull Ring.

Several high-profile individuals have purchased the One, including F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, and David Coulthard. Other notable owners include real estate mogul Manny Khoshbin, actor Mark Wahlberg, and tennis star Ion Èiriac. The identity of the first One owner remains unknown, but it’s a safe bet they’re driving one of the most exclusive and powerful cars on the road.
Assembly of the car takes place at AMG’s Coventry facility in the UK, using a complex powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine and four electric motors, designed by Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth. A special production facility was established with the help of Multimatic, with each vehicle undergoing 16 assembly and testing stations before being approved for sale.

One of the major obstacles faced by the engineers was ensuring the 566-horsepower ICE met Euro 6 regulations. The V6 engine in the AMG One operates at a much lower idle RPM compared to the F1 car, which presented a unique challenge. Despite this, the combustion engine can rev up to 11,000 RPM and must be rebuilt every 50,000 kilometers. However, given the high-performance nature of the car, it is unlikely that many AMG Ones will see significant use.
