Mercedes-Benz ended 2022 on a high note with a strong final quarter, delivering 540,800 passenger cars to customers worldwide, an increase of 17% over the previous year. Despite ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 measures and supply chain issues, the company saw particularly robust demand for top-end and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) during the October to December period, with sales of these models up 14%.
Despite the challenges of the year, Mercedes-Benz still delivered 2,043,900 passenger cars to customers in 2022, representing a 1% decrease from the previous year. However, the company saw significant growth in its electric vehicle (EV) offerings, with global deliveries of xEV models (plug-in hybrids and BEVs including smart) reaching 319,200 units, a 19% increase and representing 15% of overall Mercedes-Benz retail unit sales for 2022.
Deliveries of BEVs alone more than doubled, reaching 117,800 units, a 124% increase. Nearly half of all EV sales for the brand were BEVs, including smart models.
“2022 marks another successful year in the transformation of Mercedes-Benz: We more than doubled our BEV sales, we demonstrated our high ambition in electric with the 1,200 km EQXX test drive and we achieved a new record year for Mercedes-Maybach with sales up 37%. In 2023 we will continue our mission to offer the most desirable electric cars and further grow our BEV and Top-End sales.” said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
As part of its commitment to transitioning to an all-electric future, Mercedes-Benz announced plans to establish a high-power charging network of more than 10,000 chargers worldwide, ensuring effortless and rapid charging for customers wherever market conditions allow.
