Next season, Maserati will return to single-seater racing after more than 60 years by entering their first Formula E. The Maserati Formula E team have announced their lineup of drivers for their inaugural season.
The duo of Maximilian Günther and Edoardo Mortara will be racing for Maserati in Formula E next season. Both drivers are veterans of the electric vehicle racing event.
Mortara first entered the Formula E championship in 2017 and Günther entered one year later in 2018.
For Mortara, the Maserati Formula E team is not a foreign place. The Maserati Formula E team itself is a continuation of the Venturi team that it has represented since its Formula E debut. Meanwhile Günther was previously a racer for the Nissan e.dams.
Mortara finished second in the Season 7 championship, won 6 races, and finished on the podium 13 times, while Günther was the youngest race to debut in Formula E.
Maserati’s Formula E race next season will use a new Gen3 car. With a completely new car, the competition is expected to be even tougher.
This Gen3 car has one extra motor, 134 hp more (136 PS / 100 kW), weighs 132 lb (60 kg), and a higher speed of 26 mph (40 km/h).
Gen3 cars use a new regenerative braking system that means the car doesn’t need a traditional rear brake at all.
