The automotive company known for its electric vehicles, Tesla has managed to break its monthly record since the start of production which began in December 2019.
According to a report released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla managed to deliver 83,135 electric vehicle (EV) units in September, up 8 percent from August. This number has surpassed the highest shipments compared to June which reached 78,906, this record-breaking occurred as the US EV manufacturer continues to invest in unit production in China.
“The record high sales of Tesla cars made in China show electric vehicles have led the mobility trend,” Tesla said.
Then, in the third quarter, Tesla shipped 343,830 EVs globally, increasing the factory’s weekly production capacity to 22,000 compared to 17,000 in the second quarter.
Previously, after experiencing the Covid-19 lockdown in Shanghai, production of EV units including the Model 3 and Model Y had reopened on April 19, 2022 and began production effectively in mid-June.
Meanwhile, Tesla, which has been offering insurance incentives to consumers in China since September, faces increasing competition from local EV makers such as BYD Automobile Co Ltd.
BYD is still leading the domestic EV market with 200,973 sales in September, up nearly 15 percent from August, according to the CPCA, the increase in electric vehicles is due to the continued soaring oil price, which prompted the Chinese government to encourage more consumers to choose electric vehicles.
