Volvo, the Swedish automaker, plans to launch four new electric vehicle models after launching the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, its first electric vehicle for the Australian market last year.
Volvo will produce all four models in all sedan and SUV categories locally by 2025.
The plan will start with the launch of the small SUV C40 next month. Next up will be the EX90, which will be produced in 2023, and local sales in 2024.
After that there is a compact SUV that will be released next year, followed by a new four-door large sedan model in 2024.
“Every new model we make from now on is purely electric. There is no turning back for us,” Volvo Car Australia Managing Director Stephen Connor told Drive.
Connor also said that by bringing in four new all-electric models by the end of 2024, he indicated he plans to beat Volvo’s global target of phasing out petrol vehicles by 2030.
But unfortunately, the Sweden-based company did not set an exact date when the gasoline-fueled cars will leave Australian showrooms.
Connor is confident that all future electric SUVs in the Volvo family will follow the ‘EX’ naming pattern.
The electric C40 is Volvo’s only new-generation electric car coming to Australia in 2022, and the XC30 SUV model will now likely be called the EX30.
