VEV supports more than 25% of the UK’s electric bus fleet, according to the commercial fleet electrification company, which provides charging infrastructure and energy management services to public transport operators.
Its services cover fleet planning, depot charging infrastructure, energy management and operational support. The company works with bus operators as they expand electric vehicle fleets and adapt their depots to accommodate charging requirements.
Recent projects include the installation of depot charging infrastructure for Nottingham City Transport, supporting its expanding electric bus fleet. The operator introduced six new electric double-decker buses last month.
VEV has also completed high-powered charging infrastructure at Stagecoach’s Gillmoss depot in Liverpool. Stagecoach has additionally moved its entire electric bus fleet onto VEV IQ, the company’s charging and energy management platform.
Charging Infrastructure and Energy Management
The expansion of electric bus fleets is increasing demand for depot infrastructure, grid capacity and charging management. Operators must coordinate vehicle availability with charging schedules while managing electricity consumption and operational costs.
VEV IQ provides a platform for monitoring and managing vehicles, charging infrastructure and on-site energy assets. It is designed to give operators real-time visibility of their fleet and energy operations through a single system.
The company’s work with Nottingham City Transport and Stagecoach covers different aspects of depot electrification, including charging infrastructure deployment and the management of electric bus charging.
VEV’s Electric Commercial Vehicle Portfolio
VEV said it currently supports more than 6,000 electric commercial vehicles across Europe, including over 5,000 in the UK. Electric buses account for a growing share of its supported fleet as public transport operators continue their transition away from conventional vehicles.
Simon Cubitt, Commercial Director for Bus and Coach at VEV, said the company had reached the milestone as operators moved from individual electrification projects to larger fleet deployments.
“Reaching the point where VEV is supporting more than a quarter of the UK’s electric bus fleet is a significant milestone, not just for our business but for the industry as a whole.
“Operators are moving from individual depot projects to large-scale fleet electrification, and that brings new challenges around infrastructure, energy management and operational performance.
“Through projects with operators such as Nottingham City Transport and Stagecoach, we’ve seen first-hand how a joined-up approach to vehicles, charging and energy can help make electrification work at scale. As the transition gathers pace, our focus remains on helping operators deliver reliable, cost-effective zero-emission services for the communities they serve.”
