German appliance manufacturer Miele plans to expand the electrification of its European customer service fleet with 840 battery-electric transporters supplied by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN).
The vehicles will be deployed to serve household and commercial customers across Europe, following a Europe-wide tender covering 2026 and 2027. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles secured the contract, with 440 of the electric transporters allocated to Germany.
The vehicles will also feature interior equipment from Sortimo, providing storage and organisation solutions for the tools, materials and spare parts required by Miele service technicians.
Germany to Receive More Than Half of the Electric Fleet
Of the 840 vehicles ordered, 440 will operate in Germany, making the country the largest destination for the fleet expansion.
Miele and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have not yet disclosed which electric transporter models will be supplied or specified the battery and drivetrain configurations selected for the order.

The new vehicles are intended to support service operations across Miele’s European markets, covering both household and professional customers.
Professional Service Fleet Nears Full Electrification
Miele has made particularly significant progress in electrifying its professional customer service operations. The company expects almost all of the approximately 420 employees in this division to use battery-electric transporters in the future, representing an electric vehicle share of nearly 100%.
Electrification is progressing at a slower rate in household customer service. According to Miele, approximately 30% of the vehicles currently operating in this segment are battery-electric.
The company expects this proportion to increase as existing vehicles are replaced, although it has not announced a specific electrification target or timetable for the household service fleet.
Partnership Builds on Earlier ID. Buzz Cargo Deployment
Miele and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have worked together on electric service vehicles for several years.
In 2022, following the market launch of the ID. Buzz Cargo, Miele introduced an initial group of five vehicles for customer service operations in Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Norway and Spain.
Those vehicles featured specially developed interior fittings designed to accommodate the equipment, spare parts and tools required by service technicians.
Experience from the initial deployment helped inform the requirements for the latest Europe-wide tender. Miele said feedback and operational data covering driving range, charging times, energy consumption and everyday usability were considered when defining the specifications for the new fleet.
Sortimo Equipment Designed to Limit Additional Weight
Alongside the electric drivetrain, the interior configuration is an important part of the vehicle specification.
The transporters will be equipped with Sortimo fittings designed to organise tools and spare parts while keeping additional vehicle weight as low as possible. Lower weight can help limit energy consumption and support vehicle efficiency.

However, Miele and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have not disclosed specific weight savings or consumption figures for the equipped vehicles.
Through the fleet expansion, Miele aims to reduce direct CO₂ emissions from its customer service operations. The company has not yet quantified the expected emissions reductions associated with the 840 electric transporters.
