WeRide has launched a global insurance program with Allianz Insurance Singapore and Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China as its first partners, aiming to develop coverage for its Level 4 (L4) autonomous vehicle operations as the company expands internationally.
Announced on October 27, the program will cover different stages of autonomous vehicle operations, including robotaxis and robobuses. The partners will develop insurance arrangements that address local regulatory requirements across WeRide’s existing markets in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, as well as planned launches in Europe.

The proposed coverage includes motor liability, commercial general liability, product liability, and privacy and cybersecurity risks.
Coverage for Expanding Autonomous Fleets
WeRide operates approximately 3,600 autonomous vehicles across 13 countries and more than 60 cities, including over 1,800 robotaxis. The company said the insurance program is intended to support the deployment of tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles worldwide.
WeRide expects long-term insurance partnerships and centralized coverage arrangements to help streamline insurance processes as its fleet grows. The company also anticipates that larger deployment volumes could improve insurance efficiency and support its operating economics.
Allianz and Ping An Support Existing Operations
Allianz Insurance Singapore has provided insurance for WeRide’s driverless Robobus service at Sentosa, which WeRide describes as the first fully driverless autonomous vehicle service to receive coverage from an insurer in Singapore.
Allianz later extended coverage to WeRide robotaxis operating with Grab through the Ai.R autonomous shuttle service in Punggol. As of October 2026, the service had recorded more than 13,000 unique riders and approximately 135,000 km of autonomous driving, according to the announcement.
Ping An P&C has developed insurance coverage for WeRide’s robotaxi operations in China and the Middle East, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The arrangements cover services offered through WeRide Go and third-party platforms such as Uber and TXAI.
“Insurance is a critical part of the infrastructure needed to bring autonomous driving to scale globally,” said Jennifer Li, CFO and head of international at WeRide.
“As China’s autonomous driving industry goes global, there is an urgent need for matching globalized insurance coverage,” said Hequn Shi, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Ping An P&C Insurance.
Plans to Expand the Program
WeRide plans to add more markets and insurance partners to the program. The company also intends to explore coverage structures, pricing approaches and insurance protocols tailored to autonomous vehicles.
The initiative addresses an operational requirement for autonomous mobility providers expanding across jurisdictions with different insurance regulations and liability frameworks. The partners have not disclosed the program’s financial terms or detailed policy limits.
