ABB E-mobility and Elexon have formed a strategic partnership to help logistics companies and commercial vehicle fleet operators electrify their depots, combining charging technology with planning, installation, operation and support services.
The companies announced the collaboration at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover. ABB E-mobility will provide its DC charging technology, while Elexon will oversee analysis, consulting, technical planning, implementation and subsequent operation, including service, support, energy management and load management.
One-Stop Depot Electrification
As a certified ABB E-mobility partner, Elexon is qualified to install, commission and service ABB charging solutions. The arrangement is intended to give fleet operators a single point of contact across the different stages of depot electrification.
“The depot decides whether an electrified fleet makes economic sense. Operators have to coordinate hardware, construction, grid connection and operation themselves, and that is exactly where projects fail,” said Bruno Bourguet, President EMEA at ABB E-mobility.
Elexon normally develops its own charging hardware and software and has the equipment manufactured by production partners. The companies have not disclosed whether ABB technology will supplement or replace parts of Elexon’s existing portfolio in particular performance classes.
They have also not specified whether the partnership will result in a joint commercial product or offering beyond Elexon’s certification as an ABB E-mobility partner.
Charging Technology And Energy Management
ABB E-mobility describes its contribution as high-performance DC charging infrastructure designed for commercial vehicle fleets and fast-charging applications.
Elexon will contribute services covering the wider depot project, including technical analysis, consulting, planning, construction and operation. Its responsibilities will also include energy and load management, as well as ongoing service and support.
The companies have not specified which ABB charging products will form part of the offering. It is also unclear whether the cooperation will extend beyond DC charging to AC charging equipment, which can be used for vehicles that remain parked at depots for longer periods.
“Fleet operators need more than charging hardware – they need a reliable, integrated solution that works seamlessly from grid connection to daily operation,” said Marcus Scholz, CEO of Elexon.
Initial Focus On Germany And Austria
The cooperation will initially focus on Germany and Austria, with ABB E-mobility and Elexon planning to expand the partnership into additional European markets over the longer term.
