Elli Mobility GmbH said it now provides access to more than 1 million public electric vehicle charging points across 28 European countries, reflecting rapid expansion of its interoperable charging network over the past two years.
The company, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, said its charging network has grown by roughly 55% over the past 24 months. The expansion has been driven in part by strong growth in high-power charging (HPC) infrastructure, which supports faster charging for electric vehicles.
“Through this development, we are positioning ourselves on a par with other leading mobility and charging providers in the European market,” said Joschi Jennermann, CEO of Elli Mobility GmbH. “One million charging points represent a strategic benchmark within the European e-mobility landscape.”
Jennermann added that reliable infrastructure and transparent services remain critical as electric mobility expands. “What matters most is that this infrastructure is reliable, digital, transparent and economically viable for customers,” he said.
Public charging infrastructure across Europe continues to grow rapidly. In Germany alone, the number of publicly accessible charging points increased by about 17% year-on-year. Within this environment, Elli expanded its network from around 650,000 charging points two years ago to roughly 900,000 in mid-2025 and now more than 1 million across Europe.
The network is accessible through the Elli mobile app and Charge&Fuel Card, enabling drivers to access charging services across borders. Following the recent integration of Portugal and the addition of 87 charging point operators, the network now covers all core European markets.
Germany, France and the Netherlands account for around half of the public charging points in the European Union, including extended markets such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Turkey and Liechtenstein.
In the past 12 months alone, more than 31,000 fast-charging points have been added to the Elli network through partnerships with independent charging point operators.
Elli said it does not directly operate charging stations but instead provides tariff-based charging access across partner infrastructure. The company offers four charging plans—Base, IONITY Boost, IONITY Ultra and Premium—designed to provide predictable pricing for both AC and high-power charging.
The service is available not only to Elli users but also to customers of Volkswagen Group brands including Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda and CUPRA through integrated charging services such as We Charge, Audi charging, Škoda Powerpass and CUPRA Charging.
The company also highlighted growing cooperation with mobility providers. Since March 2024, Elli has partnered with Sixt SE to integrate charging services into the SIXT app through a feature called SIXT charge.
“We are pleased to extend our cooperation,” said Nico Gabriel, Chief Operating Officer of Sixt SE. “SIXT charge is an integrated feature of our successful and highly popular SIXT app, making charging electric vehicles on the go as simple as possible for our customers.”
Gabriel said continued expansion of fast-charging infrastructure remains essential to support the wider adoption of electric vehicles.
“The fundamental prerequisite for the successful ramp-up of electric mobility remains the large-scale expansion of comprehensive fast-charging infrastructure across Europe,” he said.
