Acura has confirmed that the fourth-generation RDX compact SUV will feature the brand’s first two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain, marking a key step in its electrification strategy.
The new RDX is expected to reach dealerships within the next two years. Ahead of the transition, production of the current 2026 RDX at Acura’s East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio will be suspended later this year, the company said.

The RDX will be Acura’s first model to adopt a two-motor hybrid system, expanding the brand’s powertrain offerings to include gasoline, hybrid-electric and fully electric vehicles. The move comes as Acura marks its 40th anniversary and seeks to balance electrification with continued demand for internal combustion models.
“The RDX has been one of our most popular vehicles for nearly two decades, so it was a natural choice for Acura’s first hybrid-electric application,” said Mike Langel, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales.

Introduced in 2007, the RDX has been a core model in Acura’s North American lineup. Cumulative sales of the SUV have reached about 850,000 units over the past 20 years. The first generation marked Acura’s entry into the compact premium SUV segment, while later iterations introduced features such as Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and advanced driver-assistance systems.
Acura said the hybrid RDX aligns with its broader plan to diversify powertrain options as it prepares for further electrification. The brand’s current lineup includes the Integra sedan and the ADX, RDX and MDX SUVs. An all-electric RSX is scheduled to join the range in 2026.

More than 85% of Acura vehicles sold in the United States in 2025 were produced domestically, the company said, underscoring the importance of its Ohio manufacturing base as it transitions to hybrid and electric technologies.
