EVgo Inc. said it is expanding its partnership with grocery retailer Kroger to install at least 150 fast electric vehicle charging stalls per year through 2035 at Kroger Family of Stores locations across the United States, extending a collaboration that began in 2022.
The first site under the expanded agreement has become operational in Salt Lake City, Utah. EVgo said the rollout will cover multiple Kroger banners, including Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, King Soopers and Smith’s, with deployments planned across states such as Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Washington.

Under the agreement, selected grocery locations will host up to 16 fast charging stalls per site. EVgo said the chargers are designed to deliver high power suitable for short retail visits, allowing drivers to add significant range during a typical grocery shopping trip.
“Kroger is the grocery destination of choice for millions of Americans,” said Badar Khan, chief executive of EVgo. “Adding fast charging to Kroger locations will provide the growing number of EV drivers an essential amenity.”

EVgo said it currently operates more than 4,600 charging stalls nationwide and aims to reach more than 15,000 energized stalls by the end of 2029. The company’s broader network includes more than 1,100 fast charging stations across 47 states, located at retail outlets, restaurants, shopping centres and other high-traffic destinations.
Retail-based charging has been promoted as a way to align charging times with routine consumer activities while increasing foot traffic at host locations. EVgo said grocery stores remain a priority channel as it continues to expand public fast charging access in urban and suburban areas.
