Chinese electric vehicle maker Leapmotor unveiled its flagship D19 SUV on Thursday, introducing an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant equipped with the largest battery ever in an EREV model. The launch underscores rising competition in the large SUV segment, where longer electric ranges are increasingly a selling point.
The six-seat D19 is the first model in Leapmotor’s D series and will be offered in both EREV and battery electric vehicle (BEV) configurations. The EREV variant features an 80.3-kWh battery pack, capable of delivering up to 500 kilometers of pure electric range.

For comparison, Tesla’s six-seat Model Y L uses an 82.0-kWh battery with a CLTC range of 751 kilometers. Leapmotor has not disclosed pricing, but the SUV is expected to target around RMB 300,000 ($42,100), with deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2026.
The BEV variant is equipped with a 115-kWh battery, providing a range of up to 720 kilometers. The D19 measures more than 5.2 meters in length, nearly 2 meters in width, and has a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters.

Leapmotor said the EREV’s 800-volt high-voltage fast-charging system uses a hybrid cell supplied by CATL, marking the first global integration of both lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium chemistries in a single battery cell.
Performance figures are strong for both variants. The D19 EREV delivers 400 kW of power and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds, while the BEV variant produces 540 kW, completing the sprint in under four seconds.

Leapmotor highlighted that the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, launched by CATL in October 2024, enables over 400 kilometers of range for hybrid models and supports 4C fast charging, reducing reliance on gasoline for EREV models.
Several other Chinese brands, including IM Motors and GAC Group’s Hyptec sub-brand, have recently introduced models featuring the Freevoy battery, with capacities around 60 kWh and CLTC-rated ranges up to 450 kilometers.
