Skycharger, in partnership with Electric Era, has opened a new public fast-charging station in Chula Vista, California, as part of a broader effort to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure along the I-5 corridor from Washington state to the Mexico border.
The new site, located at 873 Palomar Street, features four dual-port 200-kilowatt chargers capable of serving up to eight vehicles simultaneously. It also integrates a grid-tied battery energy storage system that can supply 120 kW to reduce peak demand and improve grid stability.

“This site provides corridor charging for cross-border traffic while also serving local EV drivers from Chula Vista and National City,” said Johannes Copeland, Chief Operating Officer of Skycharger.
Electric Era provided the integrated fast-charging system, which includes the dispensers, battery energy storage, and energy management system. Tait Services served as the EPC contractor for the project, handling construction and installation.

“Building the next generation of EV infrastructure requires both speed and intelligence,” said Kyler Schmitz, Chief Revenue Officer of Electric Era. “This project shows how battery-backed fast charging can provide reliable service for drivers while supporting utilities and the surrounding community.”
The station is part of Skycharger’s plan to build a West Coast charging network. It follows earlier milestones in Williams, California, and Arlington, Washington, and comes as the company also develops fleet and drayage truck stop projects in the San Diego area to advance zero-emission freight transport.
