Denza, the premium brand under Chinese automaker BYD, is set to unveil its new N8L SUV, with an official market launch expected next year, the company said.
The six-seat plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is designed specifically for family users, Denza’s newly appointed general manager of sales Li Hui wrote on Weibo on Sunday. “The N8L is tailored for family users, with every detail refined around family travel,” Li said, adding that the model will focus on space, comfort, safety, and handling.
Chinese auto media outlet Yiche reported in July that Denza plans to officially launch the N8L in the second quarter of 2025, positioning it alongside the larger Denza N9 in the luxury SUV market.
According to a May regulatory filing, the N8L measures 5,200 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820/1,990 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. It is a slightly smaller counterpart to the N9 flagship, which was launched in March.
The N8L incorporates BYD’s e3 technology – a scaled-down version of the e4 system used in its ultra-luxury vehicles – allowing for tri-motor independent drive and rear-wheel steering. The SUV’s front motor provides 200 kW of peak power, while its two rear motors each deliver 180 kW. It also features a 1,995 ml engine rated at 152 kW.
Denza had previously launched the N8 hybrid SUV in August 2023, but the model was later discontinued. The upcoming N8L will feature a significantly different exterior design, the company said.
Li, who previously headed direct sales for BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao brand, took over Denza’s sales division in July following a management reshuffle.
Denza sold 11,993 vehicles in August, up 20% year-on-year and 5.4% from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The figures included 8,712 units of the D9 MPV, 2,021 units of the N9 SUV, 1,102 units of the Z9 series, and 158 units of the N7.
