Rivian’s upcoming R2 SUV has been spotted at a Tesla Supercharger in Arizona, revealing that the model will feature a native NACS charging port, allowing direct access to Tesla’s network without the use of an adapter.
Photos shared on X by @RivianUpdates and credited to @Chrisediting showed the R2’s charging port positioned on the rear driver’s side, mirroring the placement seen on Tesla models. The move marks the first time a Rivian vehicle has been seen with a built-in NACS port, as current R1 owners rely on adapters to use Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Production of the R2 is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, with Rivian targeting a base price of around $45,000. Equipment installation at its facilities is set to start in the third quarter of 2025, followed by testing and validation, according to the company’s timeline. Analysts have suggested the R2 could cost less than half as much to produce as Rivian’s larger R1T pickup and R1S SUV, though the automaker may initially release higher-priced trims.
Rivian announced in July 2024 that all 2026 R1 models will also adopt native NACS ports, with Quad-Motor R1s to include complimentary CCS adapters. Tesla Supercharger locations will appear in Rivian’s navigation system with charging speeds and availability, enabling drivers to plug in and charge with automatic billing.
The EV maker is also expanding its manufacturing footprint, having broken ground on a $5 billion plant in Georgia scheduled to open in 2028.
