Stellantis said on Friday it will no longer pursue the development of a fully battery-electric version of its Ram 1500 full-size pickup, citing slowing demand for full-size electric trucks in North America. The company confirmed it will instead launch an extended-range version, renamed the Ram 1500 REV, formerly known as the Ramcharger.
“As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,” the company said in a statement. “As part of this, Ram is renaming its REEV-powered pickup to Ram 1500 REV. This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability and payload performance.”

The extended-range pickup will combine a battery with a gasoline generator, enabling an estimated driving range of 690 miles, according to Stellantis. The company confirmed production of the Ram 1500 REV is still planned for 2026.
The all-electric Ram 1500 had been part of Stellantis’ broader U.S. strategy to introduce more than 25 new BEV models by the end of the decade. The vehicle was initially revealed at CES 2023, with production originally scheduled for 2024, later delayed to 2025, and then deferred to 2026 amid shifting priorities.

Industry analysts have noted that full-size electric trucks have faced slower-than-expected adoption in North America, despite strong interest in electric pickup models from competitors. The shift to an extended-range design reflects Stellantis’ effort to meet consumer demand for longer driving range and traditional fueling flexibility.
