Beijing Hyundai will introduce its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) for the Chinese market in September 2025, unveiling the production model of its electric SUV under the new name “EO.”
The launch marks a significant step for the joint venture, which currently has no all-electric models on sale in China and plans to introduce more than five BEVs priced between 100,000 and 300,000 yuan over the next three years.
The EO, previously announced under the name Elexio, will feature a driving range of 700 km under China’s CLTC testing cycle, enabled by an LFP battery supplied by BYD subsidiary FinDreams.
It will support 30–80 percent fast charging in 27 minutes and come with crystal-inspired running lights shaped to resemble the number eight. The vehicle will also include a Qualcomm 8295P-powered infotainment system and L2+ intelligent driving assistance.
According to recent regulatory filings, the EO will measure 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. Two powertrain options will be available: a front-wheel drive variant with a 160 kW motor and an all-wheel drive model that adds a 73 kW rear motor for a total output of 233 kW.
Both configurations will have a top speed of 185 km/h. While pricing has not been confirmed, industry outlet CarNewsChina estimates the starting price is unlikely to exceed 150,000 yuan.
Beijing Hyundai is positioning the EO as the first in a new line of competitively priced electric models aimed at strengthening its foothold in China’s rapidly expanding EV market. The company’s multi-year rollout plan reflects growing competition among automakers to capture market share in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
