German automotive supplier Brose has completed the sale of its e-bike drive business to Yamaha Motor, with the unit to continue operating under the name BAT GmbH during an initial transition phase.
The deal, first announced in the spring, received antitrust clearance in recent weeks. Financial terms have not been disclosed. Yamaha will take on all 110 employees at the Berlin site, along with Brose’s market share and development department.
“Brose will continue to support the transition through defined services during the initial phase to ensure continuity for employees, customers and partners,” the company said. “Brose is confident that under Yamaha Motor’s ownership, the business will thrive. Further details regarding future operations and strategic direction will be communicated by Yamaha Motor.”
The sale marks Brose’s exit from a segment it entered in 2014 and is part of a broader strategic realignment toward its core automotive business. The supplier has faced financial challenges, projecting a €53 million loss for 2024 and announcing plans to cut 700 jobs in Germany by the end of 2025.
For Yamaha, previously ranked fifth in global e-bike drive suppliers behind Bosch, Shimano, Bafang and Brose, the acquisition expands its market position and adds a European development base to respond more quickly to industry trends.
