Rivian Automotive is beginning an internal rollout of its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2025.18, which brings new features including Multi-factor Drive and improvements to charging performance and infotainment systems. The update is expected to be made available to R1T and R1S customers in the coming weeks.
The software, currently being tested by Rivian employees, introduces Multi-factor Drive, a two-factor authentication feature designed to enhance vehicle security. Once enabled, starting the vehicle requires a second verification step through the Rivian app (version 3.1 or later) or a smartwatch. This function can only be enabled or disabled by the registered vehicle owner and applies to all driver profiles and keys associated with the vehicle.

Rivian has also updated its Energy App, allowing users to monitor and manage energy usage in real time. The new version enables on-demand battery preconditioning and displays an interactive charge curve on the center display. Additional improvements include more accurate charge time predictions.
For Gen 1 models (2021–2024), the update brings optimized charging algorithms for the Max Pack battery, reducing charge time from 10% to 80% and expanding temperature performance. Enhanced vehicle visuals on the driver display, improved infotainment responsiveness, and better media app stability are also included.

Gen 2 models (2025) receive broader charging upgrades across all battery packs, with improved peak charge rates and shorter charging sessions. Updates also expand driver display capabilities to show more surrounding vehicles and traffic scenarios, and refine low-voltage battery management for long-term health.
The 2025.18 update also addresses a rare bug affecting camera views in the Gear Guard app. While some users have reported navigation glitches with the previous 2025.14 release, it remains unclear whether these have been resolved.
