Dongfeng Nissan, the Chinese joint venture between Nissan Motor and Dongfeng Motor, has filed its NX7 plug-in hybrid SUV with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), clearing another regulatory step ahead of its expected market launch.
The NX7 was included in the latest batch of vehicles published by MIIT on Friday, just two days after Dongfeng Nissan began releasing official teaser images for the model. The timing suggests the automaker is moving quickly toward introducing the fourth vehicle in its N series.
NX7 Positioned Below Larger NX8
The NX7 measures 4,785 mm in length, with width options of 1,920 mm and 1,932 mm and height options of 1,660 mm and 1,665 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,815 mm.
The five-seat SUV is smaller than the NX8, an extended-range model introduced in April. The NX8 measures 4,870 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,917 mm.
Depending on configuration, the NX7 weighs between 1,915 kg and 2,000 kg and has a top speed of 180 km/h.
The model can be equipped with 235/60 R18 or 235/55 R19 tyres, with three wheel designs available.
40.95-KWh Battery Delivers Up To 225 Km
The NX7 uses a 1.5-litre NR15 engine with a 1,497 ml displacement and maximum output of 73 kW. A separate electric drive motor produces up to 170 kW.
Power is stored in a lithium iron phosphate battery using cells supplied by a joint venture between CATL and China FAW.
According to the MIIT filing, the battery has a capacity of 40.95 kWh and provides an all-electric driving range of either 220 km or 225 km, depending on configuration.
Dongfeng Nissan said after the filing was published that the NX7 uses a 40.9-kWh CATL battery capable of covering a week of typical daily commuting.
LiDAR And Urban Navigation Assistance
The NX7 will offer several technology and equipment options, including a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, cameras positioned on the fenders and rear spoiler, a sunroof and roof rails.
Customers will also be able to choose different wheel designs and a two-tone roof.
Dongfeng Nissan said the SUV will support urban NOA, or Navigate on Autopilot, adding an advanced driver-assistance capability to the N series.
The company has not yet disclosed the full specifications or final pricing of the NX7.
Fourth N Series Model
The NX7 will join the N7 battery-electric sedan, N6 plug-in hybrid sedan and NX8 SUV in Dongfeng Nissan’s expanding N series.
The NX8 currently carries official prices ranging from 159,900 yuan ($23,549) to 209,900 yuan, although a limited-time offer lowers its starting price to 149,900 yuan.
The NX7 is expected to be positioned below the NX8 in pricing, potentially giving Dongfeng Nissan a more accessible entry point into its growing N-series SUV range.
The N series recorded retail sales of 9,316 vehicles in June, an increase of 50.53% from a year earlier, according to China Passenger Car Association data compiled by CnEVPost.
Sales reached 33,590 units during the first half of the year, while cumulative deliveries since the start of deliveries in April 2025 have reached 86,359 units.
The NX7’s addition is expected to broaden the N series’ coverage of China’s rapidly expanding plug-in hybrid SUV market while strengthening Dongfeng Nissan’s transition toward electrified vehicles.
