The tiny electric car Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has become one of the best-selling electric vehicles in China. It costs around US$ 4,500. However, with a low price is it worth the level of safety?

Reporting from Inside EVs, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has just been tested in a collision with a fellow car. To be balanced, this test was carried out with other small cars.

The crash test was carried out by a Chinese transportation safety agency, the Car Institute of Collision Safety. Later, the results of this trial can find out how far the safety level of Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is in the event of a collision on the highway.

The two cars each traveled at a speed of 64 km per hour in the frontal-offset crash test. The test results show that the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV got a score of 50%, not bad but that doesn't mean it's a good result either.

Test results showed the driver still had a chance to survive, despite suffering multiple head and leg injuries. The test also showed the driver's front door was damaged, making it difficult to get out of the car. However, the battery embedded in it is still intact and only slightly damaged.

A little information, both the Hongguang Mini EV and the electric car that were also tested have almost the same weight, namely 560 kg for the Hongguang EV and 568 kg for the car of the test opponent.

Indeed, at the price of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV which is sold for US$ 4,500, it is not equipped with high-end security features. One feature that is quite reliable by Wuling is the anti-lock braking system or ABS braking.

Talking about the dimensions, the variant being sold today has dimensions of 2,917 mm in length, 1,493 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 1,940 mm. With that size, the Hongguang Mini EV is fairly compact.

Meanwhile, in terms of performance, the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV is equipped with a 27 hp electric motor. Power is supplied by a 13.8 kWh compact battery.

This tiny car can reach speeds of up to 100 km / h. Once charged, the electric car can travel 200 km. This figure is more than sufficient for residents who live in urban areas who usually only need a short distance.
