Amazon-owned autonomous mobility company Zoox has leased two adjacent warehouses totaling more than 350,000 square feet in Hayward, California, expanding its footprint next to its existing robotaxi manufacturing facility.

The buildings are located at 25500 Clawiter Road in western Hayward, just north of Highway 92. Hoodline reported the lease on October 15, citing the San Francisco Chronicle.

PGIM owns the properties. JLL announced the completed lease and represented the landlord, while CBRE acted on behalf of Zoox.

A Zoox spokesperson told the San Francisco Chronicle that the additional space would support efforts to scale the company’s purpose-built robotaxi fleet but declined to disclose the specific uses planned for the buildings.

Expanding Hayward Manufacturing Capacity

The new lease adds to Zoox’s existing 220,000-square-foot factory at 25810 Clawiter Road. The facility has an annual assembly capacity of up to 10,000 robotaxis.

The company also leases a separate 34,000-square-foot property at 25555 Clawiter Road for logistics and vehicle staging, according to Hoodline.

Together, the facilities give Zoox a larger operational presence in Hayward, although the company has not confirmed whether the newly leased warehouses will be used for manufacturing, storage, logistics or other activities.

Preparing to Scale Robotaxi Operations

The expansion provides Zoox with additional space as it works to scale its fleet of purpose-built autonomous vehicles. Unlike conventional cars adapted for self-driving systems, Zoox designs its robotaxis specifically for autonomous passenger transport.

The lease represents a significant increase in the company’s local real estate footprint, but its precise impact on production capacity remains unclear because Zoox has not disclosed the intended functions of the new buildings.
