Several automakers are enhancing their vehicles’ cockpit technologies by integrating DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, signaling a growing trend of AI adoption in the automotive industry.
Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, has incorporated DeepSeek’s R1 model into its in-house developed Kr AI large model, according to Zeekr’s Vice President Lin Jinwen. This integration enables Zeekr’s virtual voice assistant, AI Eva, to deliver more accurate answers by “thinking deeply.” The integration is set to go live soon, with plans to continue enhancing Kr AI’s reasoning abilities for better understanding of users’ intentions.
“AI Eva will have the ability to think deeply and provide users with more accurate answers,” Lin shared on Weibo, emphasizing the continuous improvements to the assistant’s understanding and prediction capabilities.
In addition, Dongfeng Motor’s premium electric off-road brand, M-Hero, has completed integration of DeepSeek R1 into its cockpit system. M-Hero plans to roll out DeepSeek R1’s capabilities in the M-917 off-road SUV via an over-the-air (OTA) update by the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, which will take place from April 25 to May 2, with press days on April 23-24.
M-Hero’s smart cockpit team also aims to improve the AI’s accuracy through ongoing training and custom model distillation, with the goal of enhancing the cabin experience for its owners.
Furthermore, Voyah, another Dongfeng sub-brand, is set to incorporate DeepSeek’s AI models into its Zhiyin SUV. The integration of DeepSeek’s AI into Voyah’s smart cockpit is already underway, with the knowledge distillation process set to begin on February 14.
DeepSeek R1’s performance, similar to OpenAI’s o1 model but with lower training costs, has been recognized for its potential in revolutionizing automotive AI, making it a key player in the development of smarter vehicle experiences.
