The presence of the latest safety features has become a mandatory feature in every vehicle. Not only car manufacturers are competing to present this aspect, but motorcycle manufacturers also do not want to be outdone by this innovation.

Yamaha is one of the manufacturers that is now introducing a driver assistance system for consumer safety. Reporting from Rideapart, the Japanese brand presents the Advanced Motorcycle Stability Assist System (AMSAS) feature which functions to reduce tip over at low speeds.

The presence of this technology is intended to reduce the number of deaths caused by motorcyclists. Therefore, in order to reduce the number of accidents which are still high, Yamaha provides new technology where drivers can avoid this threat.

The Advanced Motorcycle Stability Assist System feature is supported through the use of a self-balancing rig that relies on a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and actuators placed on the front wheels and the steering head.

At low speeds, the presence of this actuator can keep the motorbike upright thanks to input from the IMU system. In Yamaha’s demonstration, the development team shows how the autonomous balancer works to maintain stability in the R3 model.

Yamaha explained that the presence of this technology is still in the research and development stage. However, they also explained that this embedded technology is quite versatile and does not require major changes to the motorcycle.

The main goal behind the development of AMSAS is to offer riders better control.
