Scottish public transport operator Xplore Dundee has taken delivery of 12 fully electric double-decker buses from Chinese manufacturer Yutong, with the new fleet set to enter service in the coming months.
The vehicles, identified as Yutong U11DD models, each accommodate up to 84 passengers and are equipped with a 422 kWh battery. While the company has not disclosed the expected driving range, Yutong’s specifications indicate the 11-meter bus can be configured with either a 22 kW or 350 kW motor. The buses feature dual DC charging sockets with CCS compatibility.

Xplore Dundee is owned by McGill’s Group, which invested £8.4 million in the new vehicles and charging infrastructure at the company’s East Dock Street depot. An additional £2.7 million in funding came from the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB), backed by the Scottish government.
Since 2021, McGill’s has committed £68 million to electric vehicle technology, with £25 million coming from ScotZEB. The company currently operates 121 electric buses, with an additional 30 expected this summer. The first batch of electric double-decker buses—12 units built by Alexander Dennis Limited and BYD—arrived in Dundee in December 2021.

Zenobe supplied the charging infrastructure at the East Dock Street depot and previously led a £41.7 million funding round in 2024 to support the procurement of over 250 electric buses for eight operations across Scotland.
“We are thrilled to be bringing these state-of-the-art buses to passengers in Dundee, and we’re certain they will enjoy travelling on them in the months and years ahead,” said Tony Williamson, Chief Executive of McGill’s Group. “With this latest rollout, McGill’s now operates one of the largest electric bus fleets in the UK. We are proud to lead the way in the transition to greener public transport and to provide a cleaner, more comfortable travel experience for our passengers.”
