Xpeng, the Chinese electric vehicle company, has released its updated flagship sedan, the P7i, in China. Last year, the P7 was responsible for almost half of Xpeng’s total sales in mainland China. The company introduced the P7 to Europe earlier this year with updated hardware, but the P7i is solely intended for Chinese customers.

The P7i is an improvement on the previous model, though Xpeng has not released any technical details about the car. However, we do know that the P7i retains the 400V architecture of its predecessor, but the battery now supports 175kW DC charging, a significant upgrade from the previous 90 kW capability. The vehicle can now charge from 10 to 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 29 minutes, according to Xpeng.

The company has not yet disclosed the power output for the P7i, but Xpeng claims that the single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, a 0.3-second improvement over the previous version. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version can achieve the same sprint in just 3.9 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds better than its predecessor.

Xpeng has also upgraded its advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) with the XPilot 3.0, which now uses two NVidia Orin X microprocessors. The infotainment system has been improved as well, with the previous Snapdragon 820A being replaced by the Snapdragon SA8155P.

The P7i’s predecessor received some serious price reductions last month, and Xpeng managed to sell 6,010 units in February alone. The company sold 59,066 P7s last year, and it hopes to repeat that success with the P7i. The new model is rumored to go on sale within the next few days, and showroom inventories have already been updated with the latest version.
