Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has unveiled its next-generation P7 electric sedan, incorporating its in-house smart driving chips, upgraded range capabilities, and a redesigned exterior as it seeks to expand its footprint in China’s competitive EV market.

The new P7 debuted at an event in Beijing, where the company opened pre-orders for the model. Although pricing details were not disclosed, Xpeng confirmed the vehicle would officially launch later this month. Show cars are already available in Xpeng showrooms, and customers can place a RMB 99 ($13.75) reservation to receive a RMB 3,000 ($415) discount upon final purchase.

Within just over six minutes of opening pre-sales, the new P7 had received more than 10,000 pre-orders, the company announced on social media platform Weibo.

“Compared with the P7+, which focuses more on family utility, the new P7 is tailored for users seeking personalized intelligence and dynamic performance,” the company said in a statement.

Built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform, the new P7 offers three range variants—702 km, 750 km, and 820 km—with charging capabilities that provide 525 km of range in just 10 minutes. The vehicle is available in both single- and dual-motor configurations, with the latter capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

The sedan also comes equipped with Xpeng’s proprietary Turing AI driving chips, delivering 2,250 TOPS of computing power. Two chips are dedicated to autonomous driving, while one manages the smart cockpit, enabling support for advanced AI models such as Vision-Language-Action (VLA) and Vision-Language Models (VLM).

Xpeng stated that VLA allows the vehicle to proactively assess driving environments and make routing decisions, while VLM powers an intelligent in-car assistant capable of context-aware services.

The P7 features a dual-chamber air suspension system and includes a movable center console screen—technology influenced by Xpeng’s development of its humanoid robot Iron.

Xpeng, which launched the first-generation P7 in 2020 and its successor, the P7i, in 2023, has been refreshing its EV lineup this year with updates to the G6, G9, and X9 models, as well as the launch of the G7 SUV. Its Mona M03 and P7+ sedans, released in late 2024, have also continued to perform strongly in the domestic market.

Xpeng aims to position the new P7 in a price segment below RMB 300,000 ($41,750), according to earlier statements. The P7+ is currently priced from RMB 186,800 to RMB 208,800.
