Xpeng announced plans to launch its next-generation P7 coupe sedan in China between July and August, aiming to capture the mid-to-high-end sedan market domestically and overseas. Internally codenamed E29, the new P7 will replace the existing P7i model, with a target price around RMB 300,000 ($41,600), the company said in a statement.
The P7, Xpeng’s first sedan, debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019 and launched in April 2020, quickly gaining popularity for its sleek design. It delivered over 60,000 units in 2021 and nearly 60,000 in 2022, making up a significant portion of Xpeng’s sales in those years. The P7i was introduced in March 2023 as a successor, while the P7+ — a larger, family-focused sedan — was launched in November 2024 as a new model rather than a facelift.

Xpeng emphasized that the new P7 will be a more comprehensive and personalized model focused on enhanced intelligence and performance. Based on the same E platform as the G9 SUV, it will not feature LiDAR but will enable assisted driving on city roads and highways through a pure vision smart driving system. The coupe sedan will be powered by Xpeng’s own Turing chip, delivering computing power close to Nvidia’s latest Thor chip.
Designed by Xpeng’s lead exterior designer Rafik Ferrag — who also designed the first-generation P7 — the updated model aims to be a “pure electric sports sedan that could amaze at every angle,” Ferrag said. The design was previewed in an Instagram video ahead of the official launch.

Xpeng Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng described the new P7 as a major technological leap for the brand, combining AI-powered luxury, advanced smart driving capabilities, and an immersive smart cockpit in a sleek, futuristic package. The company plans to evaluate overseas demand to determine which international markets the model will target.
