Xpeng has unveiled the first official teaser of its upcoming G9L sport utility vehicle (SUV), expanding its global product lineup with a new flagship model designed to compete in China’s premium electric vehicle market.
The company describes the G9L as a “global five-seat tech flagship” and says it will target the highly competitive 300,000 yuan (approximately US$44,180) segment. Pricing and launch timing have yet to be announced.
Global Flagship SUV
The G9L becomes Xpeng’s latest global-oriented model following the GX flagship SUV and the Mona L03.
According to the company, the vehicle shares its core platform architecture with the GX and incorporates aviation-grade safety redundancy throughout its design. It has also been developed to meet five-star safety standards under the world’s four major vehicle safety assessment programmes.
Xpeng Chairman and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng said the project began three years ago with the objective of developing a premium five-seat SUV for international markets.
“Compared with 99% of the vehicles in the 300,000 yuan segment, the G9L is safer, more technologically capable and better looking.”
AI-Powered Cabin Technology
Among the G9L’s headline features is an AI-enabled adaptive seating system designed to automatically adjust seating position for different occupants.
Each seat integrates 91 pressure sensors capable of detecting weight changes as small as two grams, allowing the system to optimise seating posture with a single touch.
Additional premium features showcased in teaser videos include:

- 1,152-litre luggage compartment

Performance and Fast Charging
The G9L will be built on Xpeng’s 800-volt electrical architecture, which the company says can deliver up to 450 kilometres of driving range after just nine minutes of charging under suitable conditions.
The SUV will also feature a flagship intelligent chassis and has reportedly achieved the fastest moose test performance in its vehicle class.
For advanced driver assistance and artificial intelligence, the G9L offers up to 2,250 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of effective computing power and will become the first production model to feature a major upgrade of Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) AI model.
Dual Powertrain Strategy
Regulatory filings submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show the G9L measures 5,120mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase and weighs approximately 2.72 tonnes.
The all-wheel-drive battery-electric version uses dual electric motors producing 160kW at the front and 270kW at the rear, delivering a combined output of 430kW (577 horsepower) and a top speed of 200km/h.
The filings also confirm that Xpeng will offer the G9L in an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configuration, continuing the company’s dual-powertrain strategy alongside its fully electric lineup.
The G9L follows the launch of Xpeng’s six-seat GX flagship SUV, which entered the Chinese market in May with a starting price of 279,800 yuan before limited-time promotional incentives.
