Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng on Wednesday launched its new G7 electric SUV, marking the company’s first model to feature its proprietary autonomous driving chips and AI-powered cockpit system. Pre-sales for the G7 began immediately, with a starting price of RMB 235,800 ($32,780).
Positioned between Xpeng’s G6 and G9 SUVs, the mid-size G7 is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and comes in Max and Ultra variants, each equipped with a battery supporting 5C fast charging. The company claims a CLTC range of up to 702 kilometers (436 miles) for both variants. Measuring 4,892 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, the G7 offers features aimed at both performance and technology-conscious buyers.

The G7 Ultra is Xpeng’s first vehicle to integrate its in-house Turing AI chips—three per vehicle—delivering over 2,200 TOPS (trillion operations per second) in computing power. According to the company, this surpasses the capabilities of three mainstream autonomous driving chips and positions the G7 as the world’s first vehicle capable of L3-level autonomous driving computing performance. Xpeng also said the chips power both its intelligent driving systems and cockpit interfaces, enabling smoother operation and faster responsiveness.

Additionally, the G7 is the first model to include Xpeng’s new Vision-Language Model (VLM) for advanced perception and decision-making. The G7 Max variant, meanwhile, is equipped with dual Nvidia Orin-X chips, aligning with previous Xpeng models. Another key innovation is the HUD system co-developed with Huawei, capable of projecting an 87-inch display across the windshield for navigation and driver assistance information.

The G7 launch comes as Xpeng aims to double its vehicle sales in 2025. In 2024, the company delivered 190,068 vehicles and is targeting approximately 380,000 deliveries this year. Xpeng delivered 33,525 vehicles in May alone, its seventh straight month of deliveries surpassing 30,000 units. The G7 is Xpeng’s first brand-new model this year, following updates to the G6, G9, and the X9 MPV. A new P7 electric sedan is also expected in the third quarter.
