Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has signed agreements with distributors in Morocco and Tunisia as part of its expansion across North Africa, the company said on Thursday.

In Morocco, Xpeng’s strategic partner will be SMEIA, a general agent group representing local luxury car brands. With 44 years of experience in the automotive sector, SMEIA has a market share of over 30% in Morocco’s luxury car segment, a national network covering more than 97% of the population, and a comprehensive sales and service system. In Tunisia, Xpeng will collaborate with XP CARS Tunisia, a premier local automotive dealer group. XP CARS Tunisia has an established nationwide sales and service network, experience in introducing automotive brands from scratch, and a focus on complete after-sales support aligned with Xpeng’s service philosophy.

Xpeng did not specify which models will be launched in either country. In 2024, the company introduced its G6 and P7 EV models in Egypt through a combination of official website sales and local dealerships.

Wang Ke, general manager of Xpeng’s Middle East and Africa region, said: “Africa is one of the key pieces of our global strategy. Morocco, as one of Africa’s largest automobile producers, has a mature automotive industry chain; Tunisia, with its geographical location adjacent to Europe, has become a strategic hub connecting the African and European markets. The addition of Morocco and Tunisia marks that we have formed a strong and comprehensive market coverage along the North African coastal economic belt.”

Xpeng indicated that its North African expansion could form a foundation for further growth in sub-Saharan Africa. Relatively developed markets such as South Africa and Kenya may be targeted in the next stage as the company continues to deepen its strategic presence in regions including Europe, ASEAN, the Middle East, Latin America, and Oceania.
