Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has launched its own robotaxi brand, Yoyo, marking a step toward commercialising its autonomous driving technology through a dedicated ride service.
The company has opened registration for external users in China, with initial access limited to people holding an invitation code. The service currently covers selected areas of Guangzhou, where Xpeng manufactures its robotaxis.
Xpeng Establishes Its Own Robotaxi Brand
With Yoyo, Xpeng is expanding beyond developing vehicles and autonomous driving systems into offering its own robotaxi service. The brand provides a commercial platform through which the company intends to bring its self-driving technology to passengers.
However, Xpeng does not plan to manage the entire service independently. Instead, it intends to supply the vehicles and technology while external partners handle fleet operations and the day-to-day management of rides.
The company expects to generate revenue through vehicle and hardware sales, technology services and commissions associated with service usage.
Amap Named as an Ecosystem Partner
Xpeng announced a partnership with Chinese mobility platform Amap in November 2025 as part of its robotaxi plans. The collaboration is intended to connect autonomous ride services with existing mobility platforms.
Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng outlined the company’s partner-based approach in May 2026, saying the manufacturer would concentrate on developing its products while working with other companies to operate robotaxi services.
The company has not yet disclosed all the fleet operators that will manage Yoyo vehicles or provided a timeline for expanding the service beyond its initial operating area.
Robotaxi Technology and Deployment Plans
Xpeng began series production of its first robotaxi in May 2026. Based on the flagship Xpeng GX SUV, the vehicle is designed for Level 4 autonomous driving and uses four internally developed Turing AI chips with a combined computing capability of 3,000 TOPS. The company has said the vehicle does not use lidar sensors.
When announcing production, Xpeng outlined plans to begin pilot projects in the second half of 2026 and target fully autonomous operation without safety personnel inside the vehicle by early 2027.
The launch of Yoyo establishes the brand through which Xpeng intends to commercialise its robotaxi technology. For now, the service remains limited to invited users in selected parts of Guangzhou, with further expansion dependent on operational partnerships and regulatory requirements.
