Xpeng has completed European localization testing of its second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model in Germany, marking a major step toward bringing its next-generation intelligent driving technology from China to overseas markets beginning in 2027.
Xpeng Vice President Yu Tao said on Weibo that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng completed the local acceptance test of the second-generation VLA model, which powers the company’s Turing AI intelligent driving system, also known as Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP), in Germany on July 14.
The successful validation is expected to support Xpeng’s plans to expand its advanced driver-assistance technology into Europe and other international markets.
AI Driving System Adapts to European Roads
According to Yu, the second-generation VLA model, despite being trained primarily on Chinese road conditions, demonstrated strong adaptability and stability during testing in Germany with almost no additional data training.
The company said the system successfully handled a variety of complex urban driving environments, including major city roads, narrow streets and high-curvature intersections. It was also capable of autonomously avoiding obstacles, yielding to pedestrians and navigating challenging traffic situations.
Yu added that the system can recognize complex European traffic signs, understand local road regulations and right-of-way rules, and adapt to regional driving habits, demonstrating its readiness for broader international deployment.
Safety at the Center of Global Expansion
He Xiaopeng said safety remains the foundation of Xpeng’s international intelligent driving strategy.
“Globalizing intelligent assisted driving must first make safety the top priority,” He said.
“I hope Xpeng will become the first Chinese company to bring advanced intelligent assisted driving to Europe.”
The Germany testing program represents one of the company’s key milestones as it prepares to commercialize its intelligent driving technology outside China.
Broader Autonomous Driving Strategy Gains Momentum
The European localization milestone builds on a series of recent developments in Xpeng’s autonomous driving roadmap.
Earlier this month, the company completed the first order during the closed beta of its robotaxi service, marking another step toward the commercialization of autonomous ride-hailing technology.
Last month, Xpeng also unveiled X-Mind, an artificial intelligence framework designed to improve autonomous driving by enabling vehicles to anticipate how surrounding traffic conditions are likely to evolve before making driving decisions.
Together, the second-generation VLA model, the Turing AI intelligent driving platform and the X-Mind framework form the foundation of Xpeng’s next-generation AI ecosystem, supporting the company’s ambitions to compete globally in advanced driver assistance and future autonomous mobility technologies.
