He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng, recently shared his positive impressions of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software after experiencing it in the United States. He praised the software’s performance, particularly in Silicon Valley and on highways, where it achieved high scores and handled many road conditions smoothly.
“I experienced FSD version V12.3.6 in California over the past couple of days and also hailed a Waymo to experience it,” Mr. He wrote on Weibo today. “Overall, the Waymo performed better in the San Francisco urban area, while FSD performed extremely well in Silicon Valley and on highways, where it could achieve high scores and many road conditions were handled smoothly.”

He noted the significant improvements in FSD over the months and expressed his company’s intention to learn from its great features and user experience. “I believe 2025 will be the Chat GPT moment of fully self-driving!” he added.
He emphasized the collaborative nature of the autonomous driving industry, where companies are quickly learning from each other and working together to improve mobility for everyone. He also mentioned that he would soon share a video comparing FSD with Xpeng’s XNGP (Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot).

Xpeng is recognized as one of the strongest companies in China for autonomous driving technology. Its XNGP system is capable of point-to-point autonomous driving on highways and urban roads in hundreds of cities.
Mr. He’s experience with FSD in the US coincides with Tesla’s plans to officially introduce the assisted driving software in China. On May 30, Reuters reported that Tesla was preparing to register the FSD software with Chinese authorities for a planned launch this year.

All Tesla vehicles in China come with the free Basic Autopilot (BAP) software, with Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) and FSD software options available for purchase. The EAP and FSD software options in China are priced at RMB 32,000 ($4,410) and RMB 64,000 respectively.
