Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has begun localized production in Indonesia, delivering its first domestically assembled X9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and launching its overseas localization strategy.

The announcement was made at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), where Xpeng confirmed the milestone marks the company’s first localized assembly operation outside China. The X9, a right-hand drive model, was assembled in Indonesia through a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) production process, which involves importing disassembled vehicle kits for local assembly.

Alongside the X9, Xpeng also exhibited its G6 sport utility vehicle, the company’s flying car prototype, and the humanoid robot Iron. The launch underlines Xpeng’s intention to establish a more robust presence in Southeast Asia’s largest EV market.

Indonesia is seen as a strategic entry point due to its large population and growing demand for electric mobility. Xpeng said its localized production will enable it to better tailor products for Indonesian consumers and improve responsiveness to local preferences. The company plans to enhance its sales and service network across the country, targeting major cities such as Jakarta, Bali, and Java.

By the end of 2025, Xpeng aims to cover 70% of Indonesia’s core city centers and 85% of high-density areas with its service network. The company’s broader goal is to accelerate its global expansion while offering smart and future-oriented mobility solutions tailored to local markets.
