Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car division of Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng, has secured a landmark order for its modular flying car, the Land Aircraft Carrier, at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, or Airshow China. The company announced it has received pre-orders for 2008 units from 12 customers across various sectors, including transportation, tourism, real estate, and technology. This order represents the largest in the flying car industry to date, according to Xpeng Aeroht.
The airshow, taking place in Zhuhai, Guangdong province from November 12 to November 17, also saw the company’s modular flying car take to the skies for the world’s first public flight, which occurred on the event’s opening day. Xpeng Aeroht, which was founded in 2013 and is majority-owned by Guangzhou-based Xpeng, has ambitious plans for its flying car division. In October, the company outlined its future development path, which includes eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) flying cars and modular flying cars that combine both flying vehicles and their parent vehicles capable of recharging them.
“We are excited to see growing interest in our modular flying car, which marks a significant step forward in urban air mobility,” said Zhao Deli, founder and president of Xpeng Aeroht. The company plans to begin pre-sales of the modular flying car by the end of 2024, with mass production and deliveries slated for 2026 at a price of no more than 2 million yuan ($277,390).
Xpeng Aeroht has already made significant strides in production, having recently broken ground on a flying car manufacturing facility in Guangzhou. This will be the world’s first flying car factory to employ a modern assembly line for large-scale mass production, with an annual capacity planned for 10,000 units.
