Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car division of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng, has initiated construction on a manufacturing facility designed for large-scale flying car production.

The Guangzhou-based facility, which broke ground on October 27, is set to become the world’s first flying car factory to employ a modern assembly line, with an expected annual capacity of 10,000 units. Xpeng Aeroht anticipates starting production and deliveries by 2026.

Covering approximately 180,000 square meters in the Guangzhou Development Zone, the new site aims to merge aerospace-grade standards with automotive-scale manufacturing capabilities, which the company says will improve manufacturing consistency, reduce costs, and speed up deliveries compared to traditional aerospace approaches.

Xpeng Aeroht plans to produce the modular flying car’s “flying body” at this facility. The vehicle, recently demonstrated in a manned test flight, is scheduled for a public debut at the China Airshow on November 12.

The modular flying car will be available for pre-order by the end of 2024, with a targeted price of up to RMB 2 million ($280,880). Zhao Deli, Xpeng Aeroht’s founder and president, revealed in September that the company has already received over 1,000 pre-orders, including 150 units through a recent strategic partnership with two Hangzhou-based companies.

“This project marks a significant step forward for the future of urban air mobility,” said Zhao. The facility, backed by a strategic agreement with Guangzhou Development District, will focus on R&D, manufacturing, and sales, bolstered by local support in land use, financing, and testing for flying car applications.
