Xiaomi has introduced a new flagship performance version of its Xiaomi YU7 GT electric SUV, with the company claiming the model set a new SUV lap record at the Nürburgring circuit.
According to Xiaomi, the YU7 GT completed the Nürburgring lap in 7 minutes and 22.755 seconds, surpassing the previous SUV benchmark reportedly held by the Audi RSQ8 by around 14 seconds.
The company said the model was developed with significant input from engineers at Xiaomi EV’s European research and development centre in Munich, where the vehicle reportedly underwent two years of chassis and performance tuning.
The YU7 GT is powered by a dual-motor electric drivetrain producing a combined 989 horsepower. Xiaomi said the SUV can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 2.92 seconds and reach a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).
The model is equipped with a 101.7-kWh battery pack, which Xiaomi claims provides up to 705 kilometres (438 miles) of range under China’s CLTC testing cycle.
Performance-focused upgrades include carbon ceramic brakes, dual-valve adaptive dampers, dual-chamber air suspension and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle.
The YU7 GT also receives a wider body design, aerodynamic body kit, active rear diffuser and optional 21-inch forged wheels. Exterior and interior trim elements include carbon fibre details and gold-accented badging similar to the company’s Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sedan.
Xiaomi priced the YU7 GT in China at the equivalent of approximately £42,682 ($57,000), positioning the SUV competitively against premium European electric crossover models.
