Xiaomi’s electric vehicle unit, Xiaomi EV, delivered more than 40,000 vehicles in September, the company announced on social media platform Weibo, marking a record monthly performance. The milestone comes as Xiaomi expands production capacity to meet rising demand.
Xiaomi launched its SU7 electric sedan on March 28, 2024, targeting competitors such as Tesla’s Model 3. Its second model, the YU7 SUV, debuted on June 26, positioning the automaker against Tesla’s Model Y. The launch of the YU7 generated a surge in orders, putting significant pressure on factory production capacity.

Deliveries are expected to accelerate further as Xiaomi EV expands output, with plans to shorten waiting times for its models by several weeks. Cailian reported that the company intends to optimize delivery cycles through an upgraded version of its vehicle ordering app, with timelines for some models potentially advancing by up to six weeks and, in certain cases, as much as two months compared with earlier schedules.
Xiaomi is also preparing to enter the European car market in 2027, opening its first overseas research and development center for electric vehicles in Munich. The facility, starting with around 50 employees, will focus on high-performance vehicle projects, electric vehicle technology, design innovation, customer orientation, and research.

The company has reportedly studied Tesla vehicles to inform its own designs. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun noted that teardown analysis of the 2026 Model Y highlighted its “outstanding” engineering, while the company aimed to surpass it in key performance areas. The YU7 SUV will feature an 800-volt powertrain, faster charging capabilities, and what Xiaomi described as the largest battery pack in its class, while being priced below the Model Y in China.
