Whyte Bikes Launches Lightweight E-Lyte E-MTB to Navigate Growing Electric Mountain Bike Trend

For more than two decades, Whyte Bikes, a prominent British brand synonymous with mountain biking, has expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of mountain bikes (MTBs) catering to various biking preferences. In response to the surging popularity of electric mountain bikes (e-bikes), Whyte introduces its latest flagship model, the E-Lyte, designed to combine lightweight construction with an emphasis on a natural pedal feel.

Contrary to the power-centric focus of urban commuter and cargo e-bikes, the E-Lyte prioritizes low weight, utilizing a full carbon fiber frame and incorporating cutting-edge motor options tailored to the rider’s preferences. Chief Engineer Ian Alexander underscores the bike’s commitment to achieving optimal balance, revealing the use of a custom jig allowing precise adjustment of the bike’s weight distribution. This meticulous approach showcases Whyte’s dedication to crafting an e-MTB that excels in performance and balance.

The E-Lyte is available in multiple configurations, offering versatility to riders. The E-Lyte 140, featuring a 55-Newton-meter motor and a 650-watt-hour battery pack, weighs a mere 16.4 kilograms. With 140 millimeters of front suspension travel and 135 millimeters at the back via a Fox 34 fork, this variant is geared towards a balance of weight and performance. For those seeking additional suspension travel at a slight weight increase, the E-Lyte 150 and Works builds, weighing 18.9 kilograms and 19.2 kilograms, respectively, provide 150mm and 142mm of travel front and rear with a Fox 35/36 fork.

Additionally, the E-180 long-travel version incorporates the Bosch Performance Line CX Race system, recognized for its top-tier status in the e-MTB market, offering 400-percent pedal assistance and a lightweight magnesium housing.

Whyte’s strategic entry into the growing e-MTB market with the E-Lyte underscores the brand’s commitment to innovation, responding to the evolving preferences of mountain biking enthusiasts.
