Wacker Neuson Group and John Deere entered strategic cooperation agreement on compact electric excavators

The Wacker Neuson Group and John Deere Construction & Forestry Company, a subsidiary of Deere & Company, USA, a global leader in the delivery of agricultural, construction and forestry equipment, have reached an agreement for mini and compact excavators.

This includes a long-term, exclusive OEM supply contract for mini and compact excavators weighing less than five tonnes and also includes battery-electric excavators.

Excavator production is carried out at the Wacker Neuson production plants in Menomonee Falls (USA) and Linz (Austria) according to John Deere requirements, primarily for the North American market.

The manufactured excavators will be sold under the John Deere brand through John Deere’s global dealer network. It is planned to gradually complete the product portfolio.

The partnership also includes technical support between John Deere and Wacker Neuson for excavators in the five to nine tonne weight class. John Deere will acquire technical and design transfers from Wacker Neuson and develop them further on his own terms.

John Deere himself introduced the concept of an electric excavator early last year, which he named E-Power. This vehicle matches the performance level of the diesel-powered 100 HP 310L backhoe loader and offers simple operation, according to John Deere. Wacker Neuson are a bit more advanced with their electric excavator models starting in 2020.
