Volvo marked a significant milestone as the first all-electric EM90 minivan officially rolled off the assembly line, signaling the Swedish automaker’s foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market segment.

Introduced in November, the EM90 represents Volvo’s commitment to combining innovative technology with luxurious comfort. Volvo CEO Jim Rowan emphasized the vehicle’s unique selling proposition, describing it as more than just a means of transportation but rather a mobile sanctuary designed to enhance the overall experience of passengers.

Crafted with a “Scandinavian living room” interior concept, the EM90 boasts premium lounge seating with integrated features such as rear cupholders, massage functions, and a fold-out table reminiscent of upscale movie theaters. The spacious cabin also includes a sizable 15.6″ rear screen for entertainment and productivity purposes, further enhancing the versatility of the vehicle.

Equipped with smart storage solutions and advanced software, including Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm, the EM90 offers a seamless blend of functionality and technology. Powered by Geely’s SEA platform, the minivan delivers impressive performance with a 200 kW electric motor and a 116 kW battery, providing up to 458 miles (738 km) of range according to CLTC standards.

While sharing a platform with other models under the Geely umbrella, Volvo’s unique design elements are evident throughout the EM90, including signature features such as Thor Hammer headlights and an illuminated logo, distinguishing it as a Volvo vehicle.

Less than three months since its debut, the first EM90 has entered production, marking a significant milestone for Volvo as it embarks on a new chapter in the EV market. The vehicle is initially available in China, priced at 818,000 yuan ($114,000), with deliveries scheduled to commence in March. Details regarding additional market launches are yet to be confirmed by Volvo.
