Volvo Trucks on Monday unveiled what it calls one of the world’s largest electric concrete pump trucks, offering a zero-exhaust, low-noise alternative for construction firms. The launch took place at the Bauma construction equipment showcase in Munich.
The Volvo FM Electric 8×4 Rigid Tag Tridem, developed in collaboration with construction equipment firm Putzmeister, features a 360 kWh battery pack (250 kWh usable) and can pump up to 50 cubic meters of concrete on a single charge with a range of up to 50 kilometers. Notably, the vehicle can charge while pumping concrete using a 250 kW DC connection, or alternatively, an AC connection at up to 43 kW.

With two electric motors delivering 330 kW of continuous output, the truck weighs 32 tonnes and includes a concrete pump with a 42-meter reach, enabling work in difficult-to-access areas. The model is part of Volvo’s broader effort to electrify construction transport, which also includes mixers, tippers, and cranes.

The truck will be delivered to Swedish construction company Swerock for operational use. Traditional diesel-powered pump trucks require engines to idle during concrete delivery, contributing significantly to urban emissions and noise—an issue Volvo says this model aims to resolve.
