Volvo has just announced a partnership with coffee giant Starbucks Corp to create a public electric vehicle charging network that will start this summer.

At an early stage this partnership will be realized with the installation of 60 Volvo-branded ChargePoint DC fast chargers in 15 Starbucks store locations.

Volvo expects installation to be completed by the end of 2022. Volvo itself plans to install a charger every 100 miles from the Denver area to the coffee company’s Seattle headquarters.

The charging station can be used by all brands of electric vehicles for a fee. However, Volvo electric vehicle owners can use the charger free of charge or at a special price.

This step is seen as an effort to accelerate the electrification ecosystem.

Volvo has targeted to sell 50% pure electric vehicles by the middle of this decade and sell 100% fully electric vehicles by 2030.
