Volvo Buses has launched series production of its fully electric BZRT bus chassis at its manufacturing facility in Curitiba, Brazil. Developed for high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, the articulated and bi-articulated variants are now available for export to global markets, marking a major step in the companyâs push toward zero-emission public transport solutions.
The electric BZRT chassis, a variant of the BZR Electric platform introduced earlier in 2024, is powered by two 200 kW electric motors delivering a combined 400 kW through a two-speed automated transmission based on Volvoâs I-Shift technology. Each chassis supports up to eight battery modules, offering a total installed capacity ranging from 540 to 720 kWh.

Full recharging is possible in two to four hours, depending on configuration. Battery packs are integrated beneath the floor to maintain a flat interior layout. The bi-articulated model, at 28 metres in length, can accommodate up to 250 passengersâcomparable to a metro train, according to Volvo.
âWe have combined the attributes of our conventional articulated and bi-articulated buses, renowned worldwide, with the advantages of the most advanced electric technology from the Volvo Group,â said Alexandre Selski, Director of Electromobility at Volvo Buses Latin America.
