Volkswagen Truck & Bus has started rolling out its electric bus in Brazil, delivering the first units of the e-Volksbus 22L to public transport operators as part of an initial batch of 100 vehicles.
The first 50 e-Volksbus 22L units have been delivered to Transppass, a public transport operator in São Paulo. The remaining buses from the initial order are scheduled to be delivered from January 2026 to other operators, including additional units destined for the city of Resende in Rio de Janeiro state, Volkswagen Truck & Bus said.

The e-Volksbus was unveiled in spring 2024 and is produced in Brazil for the domestic market. Development took place in Resende, where Volkswagen Truck & Bus leveraged experience gained from its electric e-Delivery truck, with the two vehicles sharing technologies and components. Production of the electric bus began in the second half of last year, in line with the company’s original timeline.
The e-Volksbus 22L is a 13.2-metre low-entry electric bus with capacity for up to 82 passengers. It is powered by a 280 kW electric motor and equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery packs totaling 385 kWh, providing a range of up to 250 kilometres.

According to the company, the model has been tested under real-world operating conditions in São Paulo since May. Following the trial phase, public transport operators placed orders for the first 100 units. One of the initial vehicles is also expected to enter service in Resende with local operator Viação Princesinha do Vale.
In addition to vehicle deliveries, Volkswagen Truck & Bus said it has introduced a technical support programme aimed at ensuring reliable operation and long service life. The programme includes customer training, operational planning support and maintenance guidance, with backing from the company’s dealer network to ensure parts availability and aftersales support.
